Air Jordan 1, the first shoe to ever be worn in the NBA with multiple colorways, the OG black and red was originally banned for violating the league’s uniform policy and was threatened with a $5,000 fine every game it was worn. This Air Jordan was the only one in the series to feature the familiar Nike Swoosh logo. Predating the Jumpman logo, the OG shoe featured the Wings logo - a basketball with wings stretching from both sides and "Air Jordan" printed above the ball. Nike filed the Wings logo as a trademark on May 7, 1985. Leather overlays on the upper offered durability and easy color blocking, and a perforated leather toe box lent ventilation.
This shirt is an homage to the original shoebox which was a simple black box with a red Nike and Swoosh and very basic shelf text. We've stripped it down to just the black box and shelf text to accentuate the no-frills and indeed rushed job it was to get Michael Jordan's first shoe to market.
